Director - Inpatient Care Management - Northeast

Join us and help people live healthier lives while doing your life's best work.(sm) This role operates within the UCS Clinical Services UM function and works with Intake Management, Prior Authorization and interfaces with Medical Directors and other key stakeholders.
External facing includes hospitals and other facilities, both contracted and non-contracted.
The business handles all lines: Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial. The Director Inpatient Care Management is a telecommuter position and reports to VP, Inpatient Care Management. This Director will maintain ultimate oversight of Managers and Inpatient Care Managers across several states in the North East region.
This role will have accountability for setting team(s) direction, resolving problems and providing guidance to team members.
They will work independently understanding individual and market goals, metrics, trends and results.
Primary Responsibilities: Prioritizes activities for multiple markets; sets direction for manager(s) market(s) Adapts department plans and priorities to address business challenges to include PTO management and caseload balancing Provides daily input to forecasting and planning activities relevant staffing and facility coverage due to identified utilization trends and membership fluctuations.
*Inpatient facilities include: Acute Care hospitals, Acute Inpatient Rehab, SNFs Manages 5 direct reports (Managers- with approximately 100 indirect reports, ICMs) including ongoing performance monitoring and completing annual MAP evaluations Actively participates in individual market bed day action planning meetings (1X mo minimum) and communicates direction to managers and staff Properly escalates concerns or operational issues impacting Region or Market(s) Engages with internal Sr.
Medical Director or Medical Directors regarding activities that impact both nursing and physicians, limited with external leadership Supports and actively engages in projects for region/assigned markets and Enterprise-wide initiatives Support and champion business standardization and flawless execution for business initiative Support continuous improvement of annual employee engagement scores and champion of vital signs action team Facility visits as needed Required Qualifications: Current, unrestricted RN license required BS or BSN degree Required Minimum of 5 years hands on clinical experience including Managed care experience required 3+ years in a management role with focus on Utilization Management required Knowledge of ACO, HMO, PPO's strongly preferred Experience with data analysis and accountability preferred Experience with the utilization of criteria based decision making tools, such as MCG, Interqual or other criteria-based guidelines a plus Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint Strong demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships Effective communication and presentation skills, flexibility, displays positive attitude Ability to travel as need to facilities in the North East. Preference for residency in New York City or within commuting distance of NYC Careers with UnitedHealthcare.
